Whether the drain can stay where it is decides most of what a bathroom conversion costs, and who makes good the wall afterwards decides much of the rest. Settling both before anybody quotes saves a visit. The call is free to the household; the contractor pays.

Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no fixtures, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

How it looks, or how it behaves. That single question separates a coating on the existing fixture from taking it out, and the two are not grades of the same job.

A damp patch, a stain on a ceiling below, springiness beside the tub. An overflow gasket leaks without dripping anywhere visible, and whatever it has done to the subfloor is the part of the quote nobody can fix in advance.

And one thing worth asking for while it is open

Blocking for a grab bar. Given that CDC found most bathroom injuries happen bathing or getting out rather than getting in, it is the least costly thing on the job with the best chance of mattering.
